I had the opportunity recently to visit the Sowood Women’s Institute’s annual Handcraft Fair at the Sowood Community Centre. I was so impressed by how well organised it was and so well attended. I had the chance to meet some members of the Sowood WI, including Jackie Swire, the President. They are busily engaged doing a lot of good in our local community, as well as inspiring local women.
As part of my pledge to support local community organisations, I will be working hard to support groups like the Women’s Institute. I can only say that if you want fun, entertainment and a very well organised group to be a part of, Sowood WI is for you.
In addition, they have put together an inspiring series of events to commemorate and remember the end of the Great War, including a number of local walks (poppy trails) visiting homes of WWI service men and women from our own area. You may have seen the poppies around your area. They will be holding a commemorative service on Sunday 4th November 2018 at 1:30pm at the Stainland Memorial Park followed by an event at the Sowood Community Centre. A really inspiring way to remember our War dead and unite our community. For more information, please visit sowoodwi.com/poppy-trail-launch.
